Call customer non-service, 414-343-4056. I talked to them again today. Yes, it's a long distance call. I was on hold for about 20 minutes and got to talk for about 10. Wouldn't you think HD would at least have a 1-800 for customer service??? Of course I would also think that they would admit their problem and fix these clatter traps.

I called and the person on the phone acted as if it was the first time they had heard of any such "rattle". They were aware of the whine but said the clatter was something different altogether.
I was told I would be gotten back to in 2 days or so.
Interesting.

I took your advise and also called HD customer service today.Mine was in the shop last week. (for clatter knock at the compensator)Theservice dept. gave mea warranty claim reference # to usewhencalling. Today they acted dumb about the problem and told methat I need to keep the engine at or near 3000 rpms all the time.Characteristic of the longer stroke motor.I then asked her if 6th gear is only needed for 85 mph or above andwhy 5th gear (which is the final gear before overdrive)can,t be used for 50 to 55 mph? She didn't have much reply, except for this:Hang on until July when the new products are introduced, hinting a fix is just around the corner. I also assumed she meant a our own expense not theres. She said watch for new products being introduced along with the 08's

I know 6th is 1-1but its supposed to simulate a overdrive,since it ain't no da#m good untilover 70 mph.And theMoCo claims 5th was made stronger with the straight cut gearsbecause it would be the most usedgear, less of course your always out on the interstate.
