Here are the pictures of the belt, deflector, window, and deflection gauge.

Gauge: the bottom pushes into the top up to the black O-ring. that is 10 Lbs.




Gauge on belt before compression of gauge. You can see the lip of the gauge in the window on the belt guard, and the marks on the belt guard.



Gauge compressed to the O ring to get 10 lbs. Note that the lip inside the window went up about 3 marks on the belt guard.

If you have a Dyna or Touring bike this is what you will see. If you have a Softail, it is different. If you do have the Softail, let me know and I'll get you the information on how to do it.

I just checked and yes I do have a softail, thats why Im a little confused, if you can show me that it would be great.

Sorry I took so long to get back to you on the Heritage belt adjustment. Here is how I do it.

Put two O rings on the big part of the gauge. I use the top O ring to reference the bottom edge of the chrome belt guard on the Heritage. On the Softails, the belt is deflected on the top part of the belt, rather than the bottom.



Measure 3/8" to the second O ring. This will give the distance you want to deflect.



Put the gauge on the belt with the top O ring even with the bottom of the chrome belt guard.



Compress the gauge to 10 lbs. Adjust the belt until this deflection results in the second O ring being even with the chrome belt guard.

The belt tension tool is a standard Harley item, and you can get it at any Harley shop for about 20.00 I think.
