Do not loosen the cable any more but just break the lock nut. Then when you do the back off at the clutch, be sure that once you break the lock nut and screw the allen bolt in to no play, turn it in about 3 or 4 more turns to deburr the thread. Then back it off and back in to no clearance. Now see if you can get some play out of your cable so you have about 1/4" of clearance at the lever but you can still fill some tension if you pull in clutch. Now go back to clutch allen and while levering the clutch with the clutch lever, screw the allen bolt in to eliminate all play. Now back it of 3/4 turn and snug lock nut. (remember the torque on it is pretty small) Now set your cable to 3/32 free play (hopefully will fix the excess cable)
