Default Bagger primary issues

My father has a 2008 Road King that is stock except for some slip ones and a fuelpak. So he showed up at my house last week and was complaining that his bike was making a weird noise. I took it for a ride and he followed on one of my bikes. I heard a loud knocking noise coming from what I thought was the primary. I figured it was probably his compensator taking a dump. I rode up to his house today and began to take the primary apart. As I was draining the primary oil I noticed pretty good sized chunks of metal on the drain plug. People in my line of work call that a clue. I removed the outer primary cover and everything for the most part looked good. Dirty but good. (On a side note, what a pain in the *** it is to take the outer primary cover off on a touring model. I can't believe you have to remove the two floorboards). His primary chain was not as tight as I anticipated. The adjuster looked good with minimal wear to the shoe. I removed the comp bolt and the clutch hub nut. That is where the problems started. His clutch assembly would not budge. Finally I got it off and all the splines were washed out and rounded off. His compensator spring seemed like it was in two pieces still in the cup but two separate pieces. You know how there are three winds in the spring. (For a visual two circles together and then the back circle was free to move around in the cup). Is that normal for the spring to be in two pieces? What the hell would cause all the splines to wash out. Could it be that the compensator is shot and not dampening causing shock on the splines? Or at least that is what I am thinking. He doesn't hot rod the thing but he certainly lugs it sometimes. I am envisioning a new se comp assembly and clutch hub assembly in his near future. Anyway thanks for reading and let me know what you think.

Oh and by the way......the trans main shaft has no wear or marks on it at all so that is good.
