Default Prep Chrome for Powerdercoat?

What is the correct procedure to prep chrome for powdercoating? Looking to find out if I need to sand blast (or other medium) or should I just scuff it up? Is there a procedure I have yet to mention. Seems I have a friend that works at a powder coating company and can powder coat my stuff in his spare time if I prep it first.

thanks

only real way to prep chrome is to strip it or blast it. the adhesion surface it he main issue.. i would sugest blasting with alum oxide or black sand if you want to save some money on media

You have to be careful what your blasting. If the chrome is real hard to get off you could cause "pitting" from the sand blasting. What im saying is creating a surface thats not smooth. If you have a chrome shop near by they will prob remove the chrome for you cheaper than you think. Ive removed alot of chrome sandblasting and can tell you that if its in good shape and on older parts that it will be time consuming. If it is in good shape you can sand blast the chrome to a dull finish without removing any chrome the powder will work just fine over it. Remember the chrome can not be flaking off or the paint will look like **** and it will continue to flake.

I used to use glass bead but but now i used Black Jack. Just watch it on the thin parts. Keep some distance between part and nozzle and move quickly or it will warp heat shields and light gauge parts. If you get some pitting or uneven textures, wrinkle will hide it.
