Can someone help me please??
Back on Aug 4th. My wife and I were hit on the bike in a gas station lot after gettin gas. The dealership which is repairing it has to me takin their time on getting it fixed and now are saying they are waiting on the painted parts from the shop they farmed it out to. It's an 03 with the 2 tone silver and black combo. I have been told it a "special" paint set-up and I have been told it is the same as any 2-toned paint. The body shop has had the parts for paint for 4 weeks....How long should it take them to get this done? I've lost so much ride time. What should I do?

It would take 4-6 weeks to get them from the Motor Company. If they have a local paint shop just touching up or re-working the parts then that certainly would depend on the shop. Our local painter almost always has our goods back in a week.
In regards to whether or not it is a special paint set it depends on if it is an anniversary edition. Harley offered a gunmetal and a silver/black 2 tone in their 100th Anniversary Paint schemes. You can tell for sure by the emblem on the tank as it would be the winged 1903-2003 emblem and if it has 100th inset in the pinstripes.
Hope this helps.

The Black and Silver color on the 2003 anniversary paint job is not hard to get, we have the original colors in stock and your local shop should be able to match it too. The problem is with the about 1 inch wide decal that separates the 2 colors. Your local paint shop will not be able to get that decal or duplicate it. If the decal is damaged, you need to buy another replacement tank form H-D, but if the decal is not damaged, fixing the paint should not take a professional shop more than a week.

Did they tell you how long it would take to get it all done and back to you?
No telling how busy they all were before your issue came to them so even though they took it in and farmed out paint, it is still subject to their already established schedules for delivery and it sounds like they are pretty busy, plus if Harley ordered you original paint that might have taken time, etc..
All you can do is wait, getting all pissed off wont speed it up and you dont want to make a lot of noise and have any one rush either or get a red flag thinking you are a problem so just get it done and out, ya know?
It sucks but now that they have it and have had it you can only be patient.
Maybe you can get a deal on a rental or a loaner in the meantime?
Yeah but Harley can either be just blaming the unseen painter for the delay to keep him off of them or maybe the painter they use is real busy with alot of other work from them and cant keep up or is drowning in work.
They should look at other shops to paint it for you rather than drop it with a painter that cant keep up with the work load, maybe they should have more than one local painter to go to for their work.
I mean dont you think when they farmed it out the they asked how long til its done?
They should have known that from the start and passed it on to you or presented other options.
Sorry to hear about your accident at the gas station, that sucks
