Paint Help...
First off lets say im new to the paint world, and just had all my tins painted flat black (shocker i know). I did ask about how they did it and he called it old school flat black, he said he mixed a little bit of clear into the paint and then shot it. It came out flatter that I expected and looks great.
Now the bad part, I'm get the tanks back on and hooked up I lay a towel around the gas cap area and put a little bit of gas in it but was stopped short for a phone call. My father asked if I wanted more gas in it and i said yea so he continued to fill it and the towel slide off. The home nozzle we have been using works great and never leaked until now, he then releases the trigger and out comes two little streams of gas landing right down the side of the tank.
@#$%!!!!!!!
I was it off with soap and water a few times right away, it been a couple days and i still have spots showing on the tank. Where it hit is a little darker than the rest of the tank.
Here is the Question,
Since im not gonna make my old man pay to fix it (he doesn't have the money) and i don't either right now (im moving), what can i do? Like i said before it was flatter than i expected, i was thinking kind of a satin finish. Is there something that will maybe either clean it off (doubt it) or that will blend the rest of the paint to the darker look...Pledge??....Anything?? I can stand the paint having a slight sheen to it i just dont wanna have it gloss.
Help Help Help
Any Ideas are greatly appreciated..
Thanks guys

I know the old-school SoCal hot rod guys used to use black primer and to keep it clean and semi-washable they would wax it. (just straight 100% carnuba- nothing fancy)
Some of the old guys I knew growing up used to laugh at the new "suede" look that people were using. They told me they had no money and used primer because they were making changes all the time as money allowed. They could sand/blend new primer after a mod and the car looked OK. The ultimate plan was not to have a flat black car, it was to have it painted once the mods were done. They were works in progress by kids, not like the trailer queens that hot rods are today.
Anyway, all that to say; regular primer looks good if you wet sand and wax it. (have done it on white and black cars) I don't know what they used on yours but maybe a little wet sanding (1200 grit?) and some wax might make it all one color?
A tip for guys selling old cars in primer; wet sand and wax makes them sell quick! An hour spent can make your "fixer" look road ready!
