What did you use for a size coat? I've done silver & gold leafing on wood, do you use the same size?

Most likely it's the same thing, it has a picture of Mona Lisa on it and I got it from the local Michaels store.

I tried to use 3M77 spray but it didn't seem to get hard enough and seemed like it was too thick after the metal was on. The Mona Lisa stuff is 3 times the price, and to my surprise looks, and smells exactly like the 3M77, but it does seem to dry better and thinner.

Here it is, done clear coating and buffing.

Just finished clear coating

There's some orange peel and a few dust bunnies in there

Done wet sanding and buffing

The final "before and after" shot

Close up

Wow-beautifully finished, RebSix! How many coats of clear were applied?

I put 3 coats on to protect the base while doing the artwork then I probably wetsanded one off. Final clear was 6 coats mainly over the metals so I could wetsand 3 or 4 of them off to get a smooth finish. When it's sanded smooth instead of having a relief (bumpy) it looks like its 1/4 inch deep when it's buffed.

Love it Reb.
That gold leaf with the clear certainly adds depth.
