Question What is Satin Chrome?

Hello all, my first post here. I am planning on buying a new Fat Boy Lo soon, in Brilliant Silver Pearl. One thing I really love about the bike is the satin chrome engine parts. One thing I don't like is the stock black forks, which I think breaks up the flow from the front fender to the rear. I don't want regular chrome forks, either. I would like to see if its possible to have the black part of the forks done in the same satin chrome as the engine, and also do the same for the air cleaner cover and the black bar that runs along the rear fender that the saddle bags mount to.

What exactly is satin chrome? I don't see these parts available from HD in satin, so is it possible to change the existing items to satin chrome?

Thanks for any help!

Well, I've heard that used for people who want to do something like that, but I am referring to the actual silvery-gray finish that comes stock on the new Fat Boy Lo engines. It doesn't have a scratched look to it, just a beautiful silvery sheen.

I have done quite a bit of searching on this. Harley doesn't put out the information, but I found out there is a company in CA called Quaker City Plating that does the work for HD. However, they only do large orders, so they gave me the name of a company that may be able to do the same finish. As soon as I get better details on that, I will post it.

Wabbit -- I saw Quaker City plating's work on the Hot Bike "Lo Blow" project (Feb 2011 issue) and it was awesome. I want more too!

Is it plating or powder coat? How big is a big order? Maybe a bunch of us can get our parts done at the same time.

Its powder coat. Any powder coater in your area can get pretty close to the color. I use mirror silver, its close, but not exact.

Quaker City told me that it is a plating.

That would be cool if we could get some people together for a group order. How do we arrange that?
