Disconnect brake line at the master cylinder, clutch cable from lever assy, remove ignition switch and rear cover hardware, two torque head bolts inside lower part of the fairing by the fork legs, two torque head bolts from the outermost inner fairing, and the three windshield bolts. Once the outer fairing is off then you will see the jist of what you have to do. Be sure and take pics with your cell phone or camera so you can refer back to see correct routing of the wiring.(incorrect routing will cause a headache upon reassembly) Be sure to label the wires going to each individual gauge. Definately is time consuming but well worth it in the end.

Be sure to label all the cables and wires. streetglidin is right, the service manual is a big help. I did my '06 a couple of years back. Getting the radio mount out takes patience. Use a good plastic part cleaner/prep right before painting - makes all the difference. Don't forget the fairing cap with the switches.

Default inner fairing removal

A buddy and I followed bubbas1 step by step directions on our bikes, his a 10 Ultra Limited and mine an 09 EGC. 2 1/2 hours to remove the inner fairings on both bikes one Saturday, and off to the painters. He was done on Friday painting them both, and we reassembled them the next day. About 4 hours to reassemble them. We labeled a bunch of baggies and I took my computer to the shop to follow along with the directions. Not that hard, and I've never been more pleased doing a project before. It is something I would never tackle alone, but with a helper, it is not too bad.

Good luck, and it looks like you have a Flame Blue Pearl bike, like ours.

Check out my post here: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...r-fairing.html

I put Bubba1s directions into a word docuement if you'd like. pm me your e-mail address and I can send you a copy. Good luck, and take a picture of your inner fairing before you remove it. I didn't take one before I started so people don't have a picture to compare the finished product to.

No need to disconnect the brake line. It doesn't run through the fairing.
