Default Fatboy Wheels

I have an 08 Fatboy that I want to change up the colors a bit on the wheels. What I am looking to do is like that of the new Fatboy Lo, where it is black in the center, while leaving the outer part of the rim silver. I know the proper way would be to remove everything from the wheel and have it painted and baked on. At least I think that is what would be proper. Then I got to looking at Plasti Dip. I could just mask off everything and spray the parts I want, with the wheels off the bike of course. I figured thousands of people have Plasti Dip'd their car wheels, so it should work for bikes too, right? So after scouring the interwebs I see lots of folks have done it to a variety of bikes. Then I find one guy who blasts it saying he has seen many wheels ruined by Plasti Dip. I haven't found any other evidence of this and this guy runs a powder coating company, so I think he might just be trying to drum up business. Does anybody have any other ideas about how to go about adding this color to my wheels? Is there a good rattle can paint that will work and last? have you Plasti Dip'd your wheels?

I'll share my plasti dip experience. I did my cowbell and air cleaner cover in May 2015. Last week, 10 months later, it took all of 20 seconds to remove and the chrome underneath was the cleanest it had been since it came off the floor. There was no residue, no issues period. The dip had zero chips or scratches and I only removed it so I could see if I liked the parts better painted. After painting is say the dip finish is more durable. Washes with soap and water. I can't imagine anything g ever happening to wheels with the dip. If you dont like it just peel it off. Easy to do.
