Removing sticky tape on black denim paint

Use only H-D Denim Paint cleaner! Otherwise you may risk voiding warrantee.

If that alone doesn't work, try gently rubbing in some WD-40 with a soft cotton cloth (no synthetic fibers). Let it sit for a few minutes then gently rub the adhesive off...repeat if necessary. You can then use the HD cleaner to remove the remaining WD-40 residue.

Jester,
Spray the remaining adhesive with a coat of GooGone or WD40 and let it sit for a minute.
Use a clean microfiber cloth to wipe off. Repeat if necessary. When done use another clean microfiber cloth and spray some brake cleaner on the cloth and wipe down the entire area.
Follow up with another clean microfiber cloth this time using Dawn, Ajax or some other non-abrasive hand dish soap. Rinse.
Now you're ready to wipe the entire project down with the Harley Denim Cleaner Spray or CycleCares Denim cleaner (either work but I prefer the Cyclecares).
Main thing is to use clean microfiber cloths and never, ever rub too hard or too long in one spot.
And no, the brake cleaner does not damage the flat clear or base coat. The brake cleaner is the actual recommendation that my local dealer gave me. I butt puckered the first time, but the dealer was right. It took off some hydraulic clutch prints left on my bags that wouldn't come off with anything else. And I've used it multiple times since without ill effect. Works great for stubborn grease or other crap that doesn't seem to come off as easily with anything else.
