1965 Pan speedo question
I have a 1965 Electra Glide on the outside but new STD case, heads, transmission on the inside. I wanted to keep the bike as original looking as possible with the modern amenities. I located an original tombstone speedometer that is a 1:1 ratio. The speedo that I removed was a 2:1. I removed the driven gear that was a fiber 11 tooth in the top of the transmission and replaced it with what I thought was an OEM type 13 tooth. Running the speedo w/ the 11 tooth, as soon as I would start moving it would jump up to over double my speed. With the 13, it brought it down a bit, but now it's closer to double my speed. Do I need to break open the tranny and change the drive gear? Does an STD tranny even offer this as a possibility or am I stuck with a 2:1? Thanks guys for any imput.

If you change the drive unit (which you did), you also need to go into the tranny and change the speedo drive gear on the countershaft (#35635-62). STD does not make gear sets. If you look at the J&P ctalog they sell the drive gear (their #600-164).
