Default 6-Volt headlight on '57 Pan.

My roadies father has a '57 Pan with a 6 volt headlight. He is wanting to replace the light for a brighter one for this one is dim and he is older and is wanting a brighter light w/o going to 12 volt. What is everyone else doing with theirs or have done. Thank you.

Don't know of any 6v. bright lights. I went to 12v and use a halogen headlight. 6v lights were never bright.

But on the 57 has a 3 brush generator and do not think with a H4 it will keep the battery charged and might burn up the generator. A 64 has a two brush generator. BIG difference between a 3 brush and 2 brush generator.

I converted this '48 Pan to 12 volt back in 1975. Had the generator rewound, I can't remember what it cost back then but auto electric shops did that sort of things for like $25. a Bosch voltage regulator from a VW, and a small 12 volt jap m/c battery.
I also rewired all the wiring at that time, very simple to do.
