Default titles

we just bought a 1947 panhead and a 1952 panhead to restore but i only got a bill of sale with them. how do i get a title for these bikes? the numbers are stamped on the motors--we are in panama city florida.

Don't think those bikes had titles, that's something started many years later. The bill of sale and previous registration signed by the seller and yourself should be all you need.

Actually, those bikes you bought are stolen. I want them back. Get 'em here by April 1 and I won't file charges.

Teresa, are you sure about the one that says it is a 47??? 47 was the last year of the knuckle; 48 was the first year of the pan. I believe there are supposed to be a few prototype pans that were actually made in late 47 but I have never seen a picture of one other than in some of my books.

Title varies by state. In California you can still get a title for an old bike, however, many states do not title bikes in accordance with the year prior to certain years. Check with your local DMV or with the local police if you know one.

By making a lead pencil copy of vin number you use to be able to reapply for title.These laws are changing fast depending on state.Call a notary and ask for info on lost title.
