Default Good service manuals for Panhead's

Looking to buy a few reference manuals for wroking on the old Panny...

Do you have any recommendations on which is better or should I buy a few?

I don't think you can go wrong with the factory service manual accompanied with the correct factory parts manual.

The other reference I use is by Kirk Perry, "Mechanics and Owners Guide Harley Davidson OHV Big Twins". Covers 41-59. Lots of useful information, good pics and explains procedures well.

panz has it. Go with the HD service manual. Also the parts manual. Look on EBAY, but MAKE sure it is the HD manual. The rest leave a little to be desired, IMFUO It'll run you 25 - 40 bucks, but will save you HUNDREDS.

The '41-'84 parts manual is essential. The service manual doesn't necesarily show all the individual parts in an assembly. It just tells you how to put it together or adjust it. The Parts manual will show you what's IN the assembly, what's specific to certain years or common to many.
