Gotta ask, Are you a shop, are you or did you make money as a machinist full time from home? You have such nice tools to work with, is all of this hobby related or are you / were you in the industry at some point? I’ve built many Choppers and ran drag bikes, built a number of performance motors, but I’ve always been at the mercy of Harbor freight and sears for tools lol. I remember an interview from a paper that did a article covering a bike show where I got first place and they kept asking about my machine shop… I had to explain my “Machine Shop” was angle grinders, sears drill press, tire irons and swap meet used tools lol.

I remember a similar conversation at the drag strip when a group were interviewed about budgets and investment in our engine builds. I had to explain that I just bought every 1969-70 Lincoln Continental I could find from every farmer in the county.. shared I paid between $100-$300 per car, gutted the 4 bolt main 460’s, honed them with black n Decker drill, put new rings on OEM pistons and bolted my self ported 70 heads on each block with the same swap meet cam and aluminum dual quad intake and called it good. 11 second street car with a $400 motor lol. I trashed at least two per year.. sad, they seemed worthless and abundant back then.

Did but only for a couple years back in 1971-73. Had a partner / room mate that ran a part time business out of a home shop. We had a lathe, valve / valve seat grinders, and most of the tools to rebuild HDs. What we didn't have in machine equipment, we could either do at our regular jobs. Mine was a MC mech for Honda. I could bore cylinders and Heliarc front motor mounts. Bob's was access to a a machine shop at Pearl Harbor shipyard. Bob had access to bigger mills, and surface grinders. I got out of bike mechanics in 1979 and started working in electronics. Got back into hobby machine stuff in 1990. Been collecting stuff since then. Got back into MCs in 1999 (quit in 92) and at the time had the cheap HF/Central machine/ Rong Fu mill drill you see me using..

Over the years, I've access to some good machinists to help me along.. Still have access to some when I get hung up.. Guys like Johnjzjz, Twisted, Larry Yacko and even the guys at Zippers and a few I've missed have been a great help. Heck I call Bob every now and then. A local guy named Dave Osman has been a great help. He is one of the guys that made a living doing machine work out of his garage.. He rebuilt the crank and fit the left bearing one the SnS 113 I just rebuilt.

I remember back the day if you had a drill press, bench grinder, 8 inch disc grinder, oxyacetylene torch, and basic hand tools, you were set.. I still have the disc grinder and torch body / tips from the late 60s / early 70s..

The new third gear should be here today.. Started out in Minnesota but decided to try out Orlando, Fl before coming to SoCal..

2 studs were semi loose so I used a little of the red to hopefully seal the holes and can keep them from moving. Attached the plates so the Red sets up with tension on the stud.

The inner primary bearing bearing has about 1 to 2 thou cleanance on the OD. I'm thinking about setting it with Loctite 620.

Nice work. Looks like an original inner...has no vent to it. MoCo added a fix starting in 1966 and had a retro kit for them. It is one of the "fixes" I added as I have been redoing my 65 FLH

Without the vented primary you will definitely have a leaking primary (all the pressure from the heat of the sealed primary is gonna escape somewhere and for me it was the seal around the solenoid). I can post a better pic of the service bulletin if you decide to upgrade.

Thanks for the info.

I was going to use the feed fitting for a vent. If I understand this correctly, the vent in the mod was used to couple the primary with the oil tank vent hose.. I'm removing the circulating systems and running feed line to open .. I guess I could T into the tank vent to get little negative pressure to maybe help with leaks..

We epoxy the stud tops after we paint the threads with glyptal red and we also paint the trans insides with it
