I removed the mainshaft and looked at third gear. It looks pretty worn. So does the dog clutch. The steel bushing of the layshaft tapped out of the case. I miked it and it is about 1.127 where the hole it rides n is 1.128. I suspect that the finished size for the hole should be 1.125 as that is what I measure at the case hole where the sleeve dis not touch.

I guess I could apply bearing lock, LT 620 and see how it does but I'm more inclined to to make a new sleeve and press it in.. I've got some 1045 and W1 that are Rockwell B90. I can also get some 1144 that is R C25. Set up the tight fit for say 0.0015 to 0.002, heat the case and freeze the sleeve.. The hole looks clean and appears round.

Been working slowly. Spent the day putting around the desert in a SxS Tuesday.

Cleaned up the tranny case some. I clearanced the case where the bushing goes so it can be reamed straight.. Took about 0.010 off the MDG seal face and chamfered the inside.

Being lazy and the fact that I can get stuff from Dennis Kirk in 2 days, I ordered the parts from them. The good thing is that the include a return label in the package. The 3/4 dog cluch was a Sifton and well done. 3rd gear doesn't look machined right so it's going back. Look at the angle of one side of the dog slot. To bad I like the way they cut the slof but don't care for the lead in and the angle miss-cut.

I may hit up Jireh next.. They are more of a PITA to send **** back.

Been a little late posting updates. Got the pushing and installed it.. Had to ream out the case which included a making a pilot to hole the reamer straight and get a good finish. I went with 2 thou interference and it's probably a little tight.. The Eastern bushing needed a lot of cleanup of burrs and rough surfaces.

Used a 5c 1/8 collet to remove the guide pins and machined the gear housing flat. I did the previous side on a surface block.

Now for my nemesis. Welding the inner primary.

Crack in both the case and the barb.

First crappy buildup.. Had issues with the crack reappearing if I spent too much time welding and putting too much heat into the case..
