My 79 FXS is geared 23/49 and the few times I've been on the interstates it wasn't happy above 65mph. I also have to slip the clutch some in 1st gear. But I think I have the higher ratio 1st.

More Work. I machined the flats on the right tranny cover. They were uneven and when that way don't clamp the cover correctly. Nuts can come loose. Plan on using black oxide flange nuts.

And that was the easy stuff. The stuff that was also screwed up..

The little key on the sprocket spacer was missing. So was the key on the kickstart gear.

An O ring was used on the kickstart shaft instead of the stock rectangular one.

I was figuring on the O rings for the shift forks shaft and end of the layshaft were leaking. Take a look here..

I found the fork shaft to have the wrong O ring but the big one is that the steel sleeve in the tranny for the layshaft is loose in the case. It will take some work to fix. Right now I'm thinking about knocking it out and making a new steel sleeve out of W1 drill rod.. It won't be hardened but should be hard enough to control thrust on the lay gears.

The inside of the tranny looks good other except for the 3/4 dog clutch has some dings and 3rd gear mainshaft mating dogs / slots look a little buggered. Layshaft and needles look new.

Where the main drive gear seal goes is all buggered up. I suspect that I can clean tit up and use ultra black to seal it up..

Hey, Max, don't forget that I used the identical disc adapter on my DIY front disc setup for the '51 FL, and it works perfectly--stops quite well. I pressed out the steel sleeve inside (like someone did yours), then shaved a bit off the outboard edge on the lathe to achieve correct alignment with the caliper, and so the 11.5" disc would self-center on the remaining shoulder in a radial dimension. Nothing at all wrong with that hybrid setup.

Even with the o-ring I goo that shaft & end up with Ultra gray and let it set up. Without even wit the correct o-ring they eventually seep oil. The gray has stopped the nonsense without serious rework.

FYI house brand tranny gears from Mid-USA , Midwest and Jireh Cycles work well in the 4 speeds, just as good as Andrews and in some cases better, they don't chip as easy. Been using their gear sets in my shovels hot rods included for decades.
