Thank you my friend, that will do nicely, my 3-1 can handle that easy enough. Think I've got a bit of red beryllium that would look good for that and the paint job on that bike.

I use end mills when doing flat blind holes like that. On softer materials like brass or alum you fudge things with a two flute offsettings few thou at a time so no need for another setup and the boring bar. Have a 1/2" drill chuck rigged up to use in a tool holder for these kind of games

We cant do what you do but i get it - first off the time would kill a customer for life and second the judging would be below 50 so its a no go — having said that you are who you are and cant help your self as you have the talent and more importantly you seem to have the time

my problem is the time the older i get the harder it is to make stuff happen - in what some would say reasonable time frame - i have sent more then one packing as quality like your doing is a labor of love and not a conversion about doing it

good on you dude i am envious you have all that time to create what in your being

Yeah, John, I got all the time I need. I'm not doing this for profit but more to get things done while playing with the toys.. At the rate I go, I'd only be able to pay myself about 5-6 bucks an hour.. I don't have any experience do HD restorations for a living.. I'd starve.. Years ago when I worked in bike shops, most of the fancy work done was limited. Jobs like sleeving cylinders or moding pistons for big bore kits were about the biggest / most complex jobs.. Boring cylinders and valve jobs did good because we had the equipment.. Most of the custom stuff, you did on your own stuff on your own time.

Yeah, I've used end mills but used them in std tool holders with a V groove in the bottom surface. I'll use them if I have one closer to the hole size but I also have boring bars already mounted in different holders.. You use the tooling you got..

I hope that you are aware that beryllium is radioactive and an extreme health hazard. It is not safe at any level of dilution. You should dispose of it in some safe manner.
FYI

Well that last comment made me look up beryllium. Though it appears to be toxic and should be handled with care, it does not appear to be radioactive. Interesting read on uses in mechanical and aerospace engineering. F1 made beryllium-aluminum-alloy pistons until the Ferrari protested, very interesting. I am comfortable that the end user has the needed experience to use it correctly in their application.

https://nuclearactive.org/docs/be.html
If a person studies the problem at the Rocky Flats Plant near Denver, he might find that the processing of the beryllium metal alloy is quite dangerous. The lawsuit was thrown out of court on technicalities, not the merit of the claims. The government has a very high stake in the use of beryllium for defense.

They also have a very large medical claims program for former and current beryllium workers.

That Bridgeport looks familiar... my neighbor passed away recently, and his son rarely uses the old 'dinosaur' in favor of his big CNC mill. Maybe I can talk him into selling it to me for a bargain...

Beautiful work!
