Experience and 3 fires taught me over the past 10 years lithium batterys do not like hi out put regulators - have not figured out y some battery do it and some dont and dont care - but the battery its self while i was riding a 1926 JD we restored to confirm it was usable at completion at 10 miles lit the battery up on fire that was the first one

not sure what long term issues i could have breathing all the smoke bit it was watch it burn to the ground or pull the battery out - you can also taste the Chinese brack prasick < an added attchion

Well this battery is supposed to handle over charging.. FWIW I'd expect the JD didn't have a regulator as the early FLs and Us used a 3 brush generator with only a cutout relay..

The problem with this battery for me was that on a 131 ci motor with 2kw starter, it would shut down.. It ended up killing the starter clutch.

The problem with LI is that it don't like to be overcharged. I'd expect that the modern 3 relay is still susceptible to overcharging if the voltage is allowed to rise too high. After all, its a simple relay and wound coil that set max voltage. It can be adjusted tho. This battery is supposed to protect against over voltage / charge..

Max, hope will provide some updates aftrer you get this bike back on the road. I'm considering something similar with my 76 FLH and is why I asked the question earlier (need more cranking amps), but have been concerned about the fire issue. However, the lithium battery you are using has all the correct inrternal controls to prevent that (so they say). So hopefully it will work out fine for you.

Pulled the heads and then the motor.. Guides are shot, cylinders out of round. The used to be a time when I could pull the motor by myself. Getting too old for that.

Motor is apart, Been cleaning and inspecting. This motor is beat. Runout was about 0.05mm or about 0.002" Inside has been coated with really dirty black crud. It's like the oil was never changed..

The oil pump looks good, the lifter fits in the lifter block is tight. Goto one roller on the front intake that's a little scuffed. The hydraulic parts of the lifter look brand new.
