Paul, don't think I saw it in your posts but what did you use for valve cover gaskets?

I used the thick paper gaskets with a very light coat of sealant, enough to wet the surfaces only so nothing is oozing out anywhere. I have the foam ones as well but what concerned me at the time was the reinvention of the wheel potentially causing me grief. I use paper gaskets on the car engines I rebuild, no choice in the matter as thats all thats available and they dont leak and they are able to keep access plates on the bottom of oil pans from leaking, gotta be good enough for a valve cover. The other thing I didn't like about the Cometic set was the timing cover gasket was so thick it dramatically changed how I had to shim the breather and cam for end play so I went with paper there too. Cometic MLS head gaskets all the way though.

Agree on the cam cover and head gaskets 2 different directions

i will wait to see a pan anything machined like an Italian super car or bike - before i use paper again - and we do use a bit of the right stuff in black on the cometic AMF - been doing this 2 weeks now and have had it with the paper - but

Well it could leak like a faucet but I doubt it and on the bright side if it does, my barrels wont rust.

I set the timer position using the points that came in the parts pile with the bike. Last week I made the decision to order the Ebeyond2000 electronic pickup after reading how the points today lack tungsten. Needed the points to index the timer properly.

The new points I have here I wouldn't use in a lawnmower, couldn't believe how poorly they fit and lined up.

I checked the primary resistance on the 6V coil and its 1.2 ohms. Ebeyond says 1.2 to 3ohms is fine and that points coils will work but 1.5ohms is best. If anyone has the answer as to why 1.5ohms is best (and what exactly that means) I would like to hear it.

I shouldn't be surprised that things fit so well together but I was a little but clearly HD put thought into their bikes and how things cleared or aligned with other parts.

The way the wiring follows the inside of the tank, the speedo cable, throttle cable, they all have their place and thought was put into every little piece. It wasn't until tonight that I appreciated that. After trying carefully to follow details (mostly) to the letter, a lot of reading and input from you guys and others, William convincing me blue was the way to go, the reward is it all fits nicely together and looks pretty correct. Today sucked at work so getting to this point tonight was a good way to end the day!
