What a find. Thanks for all the pics and letting us follow you along.

I'll be the odd man out here. Did I read right you may sell your RC30? What's the story on that and how did you find it?! I'm very interested in that bike but I believe the asking price may put me out of the house and into an apartment if I ask for forgiveness instead of permission this time. You just don't see those often.

This is the casting code Eric was referring to on the kicker cover. The code on the top is "L 8" (December 1948). There were two covers, this and one that looked to be closer to the correct date. Unfortunately it was pretty trashed, so I opted for the later one.

I consider selling it every now and then because of the value and its impossible to fully insure, Im lucky anyone will insure it at all. Aside from that issue I love it and if I did sell it I would regret it and probably never be able to replace it with one as correct and unmolested. SO as sacreligious as it is on this site I would sell the 66 before I sold the RC30!

Thanks for the pics and info. I see there's a 48 case on ebay but it has welds repairs. Ill keep my eyes out though.

Tested out the tanks and everything lines up nicely. Im not happy with the frame paint. I get that they weren't perfect from the factory but they should've prepped it better and taken more care so Ill hand sand it down and hand it from a tree or something outside and paint it with a paint gun and automotive paint from the body shop.

before you paint it change the pogo bushing and the rear brake cross shaft bushings - then a little tape is all that's needed to keep then clean and paint free

you might find the pogo hole a total mess with 70 year old grease

Thanks Ill check them out today but the pogo bushing looked new or very nice. All the grease in the cross shaft hole I couldn't see anything.

Whoever painted the front end cared and knew what they were doing. The person that painted the frame must've washed it down with silicone spray before hitting it with black paint. I hand sanded it and it made a huge difference. Still more to do.
