Now I can finish up the engine. Even in the wrapper they already look better than the Japan made lifters.

The box isn't trashed surprisingly. End play on the counter shaft cluster is .009", need to measure the shim to see where Im at there. Forks are nice too. Only one gear has the points knocked off the dogs. So I need to make a decision, do I get all new Andrews 4 speed parts with a closer ratio 1-2 or hunt down 3 speed parts so I can have reverse with the side car? Im leaning more to the 4 speed and planning where I park so Im not stuck.

That is one impressive restoration. Better not let Jay Leno see it. Is that worm gear to the right between the spur gears (straight cut) the reverse gear?

Worm gear is the speedo drive gear, the coarse version, they switched to a fine gear later on in production Im assuming to run a different ratio for a speedo design change.

Thanks. When did Harley take the cable off the front wheel?

Might depend on the model. My 82 wide glide still uses the trans gear but my 83 FXR took it from the front wheel.

Stock 24 engine sprocket - then its 3.0 first and a 22 trans with the 51 rear wheel this gives you a 60mph and lots of engine speed but it pulls hills well with the car

upping first to 2.60 and the 1.82 second then the close 1.35 third is great when your riding a solo machine - the car makes the bike clumsy and lumbering when up gearing it

50MPH is what we tell all who decide to go for a car on that correct geared 4 th bike in the garage - trust me 60 you take your life in your hands as a new to the car idea - you must start riding the line in the center solo just so you get the idea you will be doing that all the time or you will not if stuff the car into a parked car

50 years on and never warmed up to one - - yet the evo cared bikes are way easier and forgiving then the lumber truck your doing with one — Y stopping is a small thing if you get the rest figured out

Since starting the thread I ended up with the 41 UH which is what the side car is now going to be attached to, the idea for the 48 has changed to just a solo machine. I don't take the side car lightly thats for sure, I plan to learn before taking anyone or my dog for a ride mindful of the right tire to not put it on the shoulder for an eye opening experience. Input and advice is always welcome!

First time I rode one, and the first left hand turn I almost put the car and my son into the sagebrush on the side of the rode. They do take a little getting used to.

Paul, didn't see any info but if you posted sorry for the redundant questions.

1. What cam did you go with?

2. What lifter blocks are you using?

3. Are you going to install the original pushrods with the top end oilers or use steel solids?

With the 84 sold and the 96 to be gone by the end of next week, I'm am finally getting space to finish up the 65 and getting around to the needs of my niece's Chopped 50. Just can't (won't) put the bikes out in the rain.
