Seeing the actual colour and with a nice shine makes me feel better about going with the blue.

Eric was kind enough to provide me with some documentation for this bike as well so I can get the details right according to where in production my bike landed.

More purple parts

The fender bolt for the rear hinged section orientation. Nows not the time to verify it but I thought I would ask anyway. The rear fender is an NOS 48 part, the bolts were never removed and the fender was red oxide primed including the bolts, the nuts are facing forward. Something tells me they should be at the rear BUT its too late now if Im wrong I suppose.

Great painter! right out of the gun, no polish or de-nibbing required.

Fender tips ready, front is an old repop but Im looking for an original I can re-chrome like the rear. The front is one of the better repops that has good detail in the wings, some are pretty bad in that detail. The repop I just had polished, the OEM rear was redone.

Looking closely at the pics from Palmers on the 1948 models I only see the rear fender bolts mounted in the position as shown in your pic. The other thing I find interesting is that Palmer states that the bolts and nuts are painted (over parkerized finish) yet in all the pics the only thing painted is the head on the bolts. The nuts and washers are just parkerized with no paint over them.

Thanks for the info. Not sure how they would pull that off on the assembly line, cover the nuts before paint? Possible. That said, the rear fender was NOS and the nuts had red oxide primer on them which means they would then get painted. They didn't want to be the ones to scrape the paint off the hinge so they were bolted together and painted was my understanding.

It would be great to chat with a retired assembly line worker from back then.
