After going through the exercise of seeing what the bike would look like with non-factory colors I gave in yesterday and decided I better just go with stock colors as much as I'm not a fan. I was going to paint the 48 Azure blue, the 41 flight red and the 46 cruiser green but a phone call talked me out of that and at first it bothered me (opting for black on all three plus the side car) but then it made sense. The side car really belongs on the 41 as it was factory equipped with one and if everything is black I can move it from the 48 to the 41 when the 41 is finished and put it where it belongs. I'll also have the option to try it on the 46 if I feel like it.

So black it is.

As someone aptly put. “Black bikes matter.”

I know the suspension is unloaded but wow does that ever look bad exaggerating the fender gap. Im hoping when its compete and on its wheels that I dont have the angled up fender look a lot of them have. I might have to sneak in there with an angle grinder and cut a few turns off the coils

I used this wheel to verify the fender is centered as good as possible.

I know it's like Im flip flopping on the color, the struggle is the limited options combined with doing the right thing. I really don't want 3 black bikes that all look the same except for the engines but it's like its really my only choice. The decision would be much easier if these bikes were 15-20K in value.

Johnjzjz pointed out something to me that I hadn't thought of. Getting the right color compared to original and the controversy / disagreements that goes with some saying its wrong, others saying its right. Black is black (for argument sake) so its safe and they do look good in black. That said I could surprise myself and tell the painter to shoot one of them green at the last minute! And if that happened it would be the 46.

Interesting differences. The fender light base had a post in the middle for the electrical terminal up to 42 - terminal almost in line with the mounting holes and 47 to (49 servicar) went to a wire passing through the hole so the center hole is offset in the fender. The primed fender is correct for the 48 and the bare one is right for the 41. According to Palmer you could't get a fender light from 43-46 (possibly late 46) due to the war restrictions on certain metals. The 46 will be a different kind of challenge where even the tank emblems are painted and almost no chrome.

After A LOT of research and making a new contact I was able to get an original paint Azure Blue 48 scanned and a code developed.

This is what we came up with, the bike is a pic I found on-line.
