I figured the gearbox wasn't the right date when I first looked at the parts but thats okay. Not sure what to make of the casting 3 3, my 62 says 1 61.

I always wonder why a guy that has all those beautiful parts doesn't spend the time, and $$ to put them together, and ride the crap out of it....just sayn...

Tranny I am going to suggest is March of 53. Vent is in the case; in 56 the vent was moved to the cover. Flat cast humps on the high speed gear side. Palmers mentions that cases manufactured from March of 1953 tomid-1958 all bear the date code "3 3"

Rims looks like 7 of 49 and ? of 49 to me

Kicker cover looks like J8? (October 48). What about the underside of the tranny lid? And how about a peek under the top of the timer cover.

You definitely have a great start to a restoration you will be proud of. Hard to find something as complete and nice as you have acquired.

I packed the timer away after the pic but the guy gave me two options. The correct base and complicated points or the newer version but I would need to change the base (which he had). I opted for correct for 48 if that helps.

Thanks for the info on the gearbox, Ill keep my eyes out for one that aligns better with the year of my bike and I can sell this one at that point.

Same rim in both pics, the other rim I cant read it.

After going through a lot of the parts this morning I do feel like its fairly complete. The lack of a speedo is an issue though.

My 49 cover. Once assembled....no difference. And you just do not find covers anymore as good as the one you have now.

Nice find, looking forward to another great build thread!

If the chrome package was an option in 48, I'd go with it. You already have a blacked out bike. Nice to have options.

Even having the blacked out 62, whenever I see this bike despite all the errors (and soft tires) I love the look!
