Side car frame and related parts were blasted today. Should be all black tomorrow, today I did the springs which were a pain to get clean enough between the leafs. Crap kept bleeding out when I was cleaning them after blasting.

Used primer, let it flash over then hit it with a catalyzed paint that has a separate chamber in the bottom of the spray bomb containing the hardener. Push the bottom button and they mix, same product as automotive paint. The paint will go solid in the can in 24hrs if you use it or not so you're committed when you hit that bottom button. The result is a paint thats the same as a single stage paint on a car, its hard and slippery unlike a regular spray bomb where if always feels a slightly soft.

First time in my (automotive) career that I've seen leaf springs that don't have a one piece main leaf. This sidecar is a 1939 so was it because they didn't know any better back then? Clearly it worked, just curious what the thinking was behind it.

I'll lightly blow in some black over the numbers, just didn't want them to get lost.

I need to get on the engine and gearbox because a lot of other stuff is ready to go back on the frame. The engine is ready to go back together, cc it and see where my compression ratio is at before buttoning that up.

The box isn't trashed surprisingly. End play on the counter shaft cluster is .009", need to measure the shim to see where Im at there. Forks are nice too. Only one gear has the points knocked off the dogs. So I need to make a decision, do I get all new Andrews 4 speed parts with a closer ratio 1-2 or hunt down 3 speed parts so I can have reverse with the side car? Im leaning more to the 4 speed and planning where I park so Im not stuck.

3rd gear i always beat up - as its at the right speed in a crash box to take a beating up or down

doing a 3rd andrews gets rid of the bushing issues pulling a car in a couple seasons <. Whine when pulling a hill / 4th gear andrews and the 3rd have slant cut ramps with the dog its a pleasure when it just slides right into gear up or down - and you need the trans to behave when stopping to help quickly when you need it

MoCo didn't go to a single leaf spring until the late 90s on sidecars. Not sure why the change. Always thought the multi leaf springs were a bit more stout than the single leaf style I've seen on later models.
