Dad's '51 Panhead
My Dad just passed away 4/16/15 and left me a beautiful bike - and a bit of a mystery to solve. I know he just rebuilt & had her up and running, but for some reason he had the clutch assembly and shifter pedal taken apart. I'm guessing he was adjusting it.
He had the pages marked in the manual, which is my first challenge - learning about the "mousetrap" clutch, and how to put it back together. I'm not even sure all of the parts are here.
(ANY help or links would be appreciated!)
It also has no kickstand, which is why it's on the lift.
The tank badges were a gift from me last year (swap meet find), and he had just put them on a week before he died.
I did get it to kick over and fire up yesterday, so I'm looking forward to taking her for a ride as soon as I can get it back together.
I may rebuild it eventually, but I just want to enjoy it as he had for awhile first.

If you were able to kick it over...that means the clutch is engaging enough to transfer the force of you kicking to the primary drive and motor. so good.
the mousetrap clutch was first offered as an option in 1952- you have the book, so just follow it.
adjustment is tricky as clutch action will vary hot/cold.
you'll get it.
Sorry About Your Dad.
He'll be with you every time you ride

You cannot shift the motor into gear because the shift rod end is not connetcted to the bell crank housing. Not sure how much you know about the mousetrap assembly but they do make an eliminotor kit that is very easy to install and adjust...just a thought.
See you have aftermarket left case, possibly Mallory ignition, and 12 volt conversion (Cycle-Electric I think). Did you pop do any mods to the motor?

Right - I ordered the shift rod on Ebay. I don't know much about the bike, so this helps Thanks!
I do know it has a Linkert M74b carb, brand new cylinder heads, and only 400 miles on the motor since re-build.
I think I want to keep the mousetrap and finish adjusting what he started before I go changing anything.
