Default Considering buying..worth the gamble?

I'm leaning heavily towards taking the gamble with a Pan Am, despite some of the horror stories and annoyances I've been reading about with these bikes not starting, not working, etc.... I'm a "harley guy" but also dirt bike and miss my KTM 950adv, so it seems like a pretty good combination. I need a bike that can kind of do everything...

I love twisty rides in the mountains but it takes 100 miles of highway to get there, I ride kind of silly by myself but tour with my wife on the back, I do a lot of local riding now that I have a young child, but every other year I do a 3,000 mile trip from California up the border then over to Sturgis, and I'd love to be able to explore the woods a bit....so it kind of narrows down the bike list.

Multistrada and BMW GSA are my other top two contenders....but the BMW does nothing for me in the looks department, and Ducati maintenance/costs scare me.....see? I'm already talking myself into this, ha.

I'd buy used, I think I can extend the warranty right?
And I assume I'd want a 22 or 23, since I can add the quick shifter and they hopefully had more problems ironed out. Correct?
Are you enjoying yours, or is a headache? Any regrets? I'd need to sell my road glide to purchase it, which I do enjoy but getting bored of.

Getting a late 22 or 23 with the latest update you should be ok.
Yes you can get an extended HD warranty or one of the aftermarket policies.

I followed the PanAm since inception, I pre-ordered, canceled and bought a floor model (for a premium) put 21K miles on it in 18 months... funest bike I've ever owned. I tell everyone this; You remember the day you first rode a motorcycle and you had that $hit eating grin on your face? Well riding a PanAm does that each and every time you get on it!

I had multiple issues, fuel pump replaced, radiator hose replaced, battery replaced, lots of electrical gremlins that most always couldn't be replicated at the dealer. Rear shock drop was another. I was about to have my fuel pump replaced AGAIN when I got a little electrical gremlin when you turned the handlebars full lock left. That was it and I traded it in.

Today, I like my RKS but I REALLY wish I would have stuck it out with the PanAm. It's just a joy to ride, fun fun fun!

My dealer was great, they fixed everything (pretty sure all those issues are easy fixes now or have been fixed with newer parts/models) and always with a smile (I know I must have been a pita).

Looking back, the only thing I didn't like about the PanAm was the chain, pita to keep adjusting.

Bought my '23 RA 1250 S a week ago and have just under 500 miles on it. No issues so far.

Extended warranty should still be available any year Pan Am

My 2023 has been error free. Only 4,500 miles since 05/29/2023. This thing is a hoot! Sometimes I think I miss my 2020 RGL, but then I sober up.

Here I have had two GSA 1250. Excellent. But I have tried the PA Special and there is no going back.

I like it better than the GS. It will be my next motorcycle.
