Well, it won't hurt it, but the bike really likes to run at higher RPM. I am typically running in 4th gear up to around 70mph or so if there are bends. I'll shift into 5th at around 60mph if I am just cruising along. 4th gear is good for well over 100mph if you want to have fun overtaking and screaming around!

I've got to pay attention to my rev-counter. I use the upshift and downshift points listed in the owners manual when riding around town. On the interstate I accelerate way harder and cruise in top gear around at 70 to 90.
When I want to play then it's true you have to be above 4000rpm.

I understand they're two completely different bikes. I’m at 85k miles on it, the last 25k it has a 117 HD kit on it. I almost purchased an Indian Challenger but came to my senses. I’m hoping HD puts out a water cooled bagger with modern updates to frame and such before my monies burns a hole in my pocket. I’m 64 so I’m hoping for at least 10 more years on two wheels.

Thanks for all the replies, I see that the PanAm is a hit and I’ll keep researching and take one for a ride when I get an opportunity. Enjoy and ride safe.
My CVO Road glide is built to 130", its 163 HP and 167 Torque. Like yours 80 mph is right around 3K. That puts me at at 150 torque at 80 mph. My PA at 80 mph, 4500 rpm pulls as hard from 80 to 120 if not harder, PA is all stock except Fuel Moto slip on. The PA feels better at 120 mph than the CVO Road Glide. They do feel very different as to the power. Mainly due to my Road Glide is a torque monster, the PA has much more HP than torque. The PA loves to be at 4K rpm or higher. Its a blast to run up to 9K RPM.

I know through the 1/8 or 1/4 unless its pro level riders the PA will beat my built road glide, Bubba Boswell ran a 7.397 ET and 102.02 mph through the trap on a Stock Pan America. Truly impressive for a Harley. I have said many times, the quickest stock Harley I have owned. Also the fastest, I have been over 130, once. A friend has had his at 140, they say its limited to 142.

I would love to see this motor with a different tune, or maybe a larger displacement version of it, tuned for torque in a bagger.

Me too. But I'd like it to be a 1400 or 1600 version, in a lightweight and technically tricked out brand new bagger chassis using everything they have learned from the Pan America.

They would have my money (more of it) in a heartbeat!

Yep... saving my monies to see what's around the corner. Bronx or Bagger. I'll buy whichever is next.

As this drivetrain and chassis evolves, it's going to be a great time to be a Harley owner. Dickey would disagree, but **** him.

I’m very interested in an up to date bagger, when HD puts it out I’d have to keep an eye on it for at least a year because of my first year 110 twin cam issues that HD promised to make me whole on, I’m still waiting. Anything with a motor is going to have issues and I accept that. The Indian Challenger had me on the hook after I rode one and I kept an eye on it, my gut feeling said no.

Enjoy

Don't know. Find myself cruising a little bit more than that. Effortlessly.

4800 rpm at 80mph
4100 rpm at 70mph

I should have placed the display screen into the white background I think the white makes the indices on the rpm gauge more accurate to read.
