My second Pan America made this noise, I had the Dealer replace my fuel pump 1k miles ago and so far it's been ok, well see if the noise comes back.

 

10k miles and I just got this issue. It also made starting worse, having 3-4 of those whining startups sometimes now. Makes me think it was a shitty fuel pump the whole time and had nothing to do with the starter

 

It's been in the 30's the last few mornings here, and I've been having the same starting issues. 3-4 whiny moans before she starts. I'm dropping mine off at the dealership on weds, so we'll see what they say.

 

Haven’t had the fuel pump noise on the pan am had it on my other HD wasn’t the pump it was the pressure line inside the tank was cracked

 

What models are you guys talking about?

 

Does someone have a video so I can hear the sound? I think mine might be starting to have the problem. When I turn the bike on I am getting an odd sound, not bad or to loud just odd.

 

Thought i would do a follow up- I've since had the entire fuel pump replaced. The filter was completely black and clogged up. So much for only using top tier premium fuel huh? I asked if this would have been something I could remove and clean myself and the tech just shrugged his shoulders and gave me the "i don't know" face that everyone gives when talking about the pan america.

Anyway the noise is gone now finally and for those wondering about the whining start up? Yes I still get the occasional whining start up still sometimes despite having a new fuel pump.

Got the call this am, mine is getting a new fuel pump Tuesday

 

Dealer told me that the mothership changed their minds and issues with fuel pump are now being replaced and not just documented/watched

Mine was replaced yesterday, no grinding noise anymore!
