Finally got my new muffler installed. The input of the muffler as I received it was too narrow to slide over the header output by about 8mm, too much too stretch the steel without it splitting. We discovered the mufflers are slightly different on the Euro PanAm's.

I had a local fab shop cut and weld on a new end on for me. Mistral, and their U.S. distributor M.G. Cycle, are aware and they've both been extremely helpful through this. They're retooling to make mufflers for the U.S. market, and reimbursing me for the fab work.

Oh, and it sounds awesome! It has a removable DB Killer, but I'm pretty happy with the volume as is.

I went out for a ride. About 10 minutes into the ride the music would stop. Hit play again and it would go, for a minute and stop. Figured out it was phone connecting and disconnecting from Zumo XT. So I hit forget Zumo from phone and all is well. Well about 20 minutes later I notice I am getting cool. Look down and notice I have no power to heated gear controller. Stop, remove seat and look at fuse, 15 amp fuse for heated gear and GPS is blown. Go to parts store and get 15 amp fuse. Put it in and all is good. Fuse did not blow again. Managed a nice 68 mile ride on the Cumberland Plateau on some great twisty curvey roads.

Neat. The phone problem is a classic. I've had the same problems with my TomTom. Blowing the fuse is more worrying. I've been using a heated Gerbing vest this winter. Just the vest without the gloves. I've noticed that the voltage level is nearly as usual with the vest at 14V or so but the heated grips take the real toll. Wouldn't have thought there would be any reason to blow a fuse though. Cause ?

I finally got around to installing my GPS (Garmin Zumo 590LM that I have had for years). Like others that have a Madstad windshield I attached a 1/2" aluminum rod to the windshield bracket. The trade-off is that I cannot lower the windshield to its lowest position but for me that is acceptable.

For those that may want a little more detail.
I picked up a 1/2" aluminum rod at Home Depot (36" in length). I cut a length a little over 8 inches (I think someone posted the required length, maybe 8.03). I cut a little longer length then filed off a little on one end until it fit between the windshield bracket. I drilled 4.20mm holes and tapped M5.0 threads into each end of the rod. I used M5.0-.80 x 20 screws to attach the rod to the windshield bracket. I have a Touratech GPS locking mount that attaches directly to the 1/2" rod so I did not need to use a RAM ball to attach my GPS. For my power source I used a Gerbing coax male to SAE cable to connect to one of the coax plugs under the seat.

Thanks.

My Gerbing gear I have been using since 2010. The Jacket liner draws 6.3 amps max, the pants draw 3.6 amps max, the gloves 1.1 amps each max. So thats only 12.2 amps. The GPS draws 1 amp. So 13.2 should not blow the fuse. I had trouble with the heated gear on the bike one time prior to adding the GPS. The plug on the bike and gear controller fused together, and it did not blow the fuse. Added new plug on the controller and worked fine on my road glide and my fatboy. Worked fine several times on bike after dealer replaced plug. I am at a loss as to why the fuse blew.

While it is nice that the Pan America gives 2 heated gear plugs, two sets of heated gear will surely blow the fuse.

How's this for a fancy modifcation? :-)
Before:

After:

I guess the bike will be much faster now with that huge weight reduction :-)

Thanks.
Yes, you can put the windshield to the lowest position- just put the cross bar above the adjustment ***** if you want it at lowest spot.
FWIW 8.07" YMMV

Dave, from an electrical standpoint, a melted plug indicates a high resistance connection. Check for corrosion on your heated gear connection and/or give it a good cleaning.

As an electrician in the Navy for 20 years, then 22 years as an electronics tech I understand that. It had to be the factory plug on the bike. Never had an issue using that controller plug on my road king, my road glide or the fatboy. Third time on the PA it fused them. Both plugs have been replaced. Works great on the road glide, blew a fuse on the PA in 25 miles. New fuse worked fine for 130 miles.

That is some pretty good technical ability there! Me...I am just an Electrical System engineer in the auto business.
