Who has bought a Pan America?
#11
I’ve been waiting for Harley-Davidson to bring out this model for almost 20 years. My last new H-D was a 2003 V-Rod. I had a 1998 FLHTCI for 8 years and just sold it to get the Pan America. In between I’ve had a few Buells, a 2006 BMW R1200RT, a 2009 BMW R1200GSA, and a 2012 BMW S1000RR.
In early May, I test rode the PA in Albuquerque 3 times and was blown away and very impressed with the PA. It’s like H-D built this bike for me! It checks all my boxes (except for the small fonts on the screen widgets). I was able to purchase the first model available from Thunderbird H-D, a black Special without ARH.
I just picked up the PA after the 1000 mile service. Had the large Screaming Eagle air filter installed p/n 29400427. It dramatically improved the air intake; the sound is like a turbocharger was added and power band seems to have smoothed out with a slight increase in power. Checking with service tech to see if he uploaded any new mapping that may explain the improved throttle response.
Yes, as others have mentioned, the PA is a blast to ride. I’ve taken several hundred mile trips and on twisties and rocky forest service roads (Placitas to Sandia Crest) and it performed well. I laid it over once on the left side riding a gravelly road right after the picture above was taken with only minimal scratches to the left hand guard, radiator guard, and swing arm.
I’ve installed the tank bag and top case mounting plate. Now waiting on other accessories like almost everyone, black side panniers and top case, skid plate, radiator and headlight guards, exhaust guard.
Planning on riding the PA on forest service roads above Ponderosa, NM while camping for several days in Jemez Mtns.
