hwy 101 and more
Hi
I need input on a trip I'm planning this May. It appears that I be let go.... So I thought that I could go down Hwy 101. My starting point is Astoria, Or. going south. Trying to put information as to where to stay CHEAP.... I can tent camp, but if you do KOA's it is around $25.00 and up. If I'm on the road for 2 months ouch! When I get to San Diego I was thinking on turning left. That is as for as I have planed. I'm going by myself, nice and easy, down 101. I'm not new to riding just to posting. Gear is not a problem. Langlitz's promised to have my pants done by March 22nd my coat was done last month. Has anyone rode 101 that has stayed that they would recommend? I thought maybe 7 to 10 day on 101? Swing in to the Southwest???
Any help??

1 and 101 seperate south of Eureka, CA. I'd do the 1. They merge together and apart a lot.
Everywhere is expensive it seems if $25 is your camping budget. You can get a state parks camping pass but the parks fill up real fast, and its pretty dang cold on the coast.
I recently rode up the 1 into oregon from San Francisco. It's a little more than 1 day taking it real easy. I'd figure 3-4 days at most riding down the 1.
Avenue of Giants is a slight detour that I highly recommend. I stayed in a couple dumps and they cost me $80 per night.
Take a look at http://www.pashnit.com they will have everything you ever wanted to know about riding in CA. It's a partial pay site, but you only need to pay for the special road reviews. $20/year so its worth it anyhow.
Here is a link to the CA state parks camping page. http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=23293 Lots of good info there. Remember it will go from 80's to 50's real fast so be prepared.
