Default Desert View Tower, Saturday, Feb 3

Some of us from the club are going to ride out to the Desert View Tower, located off of "In-Ko-Pah Road" out by the Imperial and San Diego County line, near the I-8. That's this Saturday, Feb 3.

I'm not sure of the route, another guy is supposedly planning that out. My guess it involves taking Hwy 78 east to Julian, and then Sunrise Hwy (S1) to the I-8, and then east to the Tower. Then probably come back home via S2 through Ocotillo, Anza Borrego, and Warner Springs.

Two staging points...

1. Shell Station, Temecula, off the intersection of I-15 and Hwy 79S. Kickstands up 8:30am.

2. ARCO AM/PM Station, Escondido, corner of Valley Pkwy & La Terraza (block east of I-15). Kickstands up 9:00am.

Here's the website for the Desert View Tower:

I just don't know the actual route; another guy in the club is planning that out. I only know the staging points. I'm guessing we'll ride down Sunrise Hwy, either going to or coming back, which means we'll hit snow, and it'll be pretty cold.

Just got back from this ride a few hours a ago.

Had a great time, and weather was great too. We had five people altogether, myself and the wife, Mike, Trevor, and Grumpy Irish Again from this forum. Grumpy's good company, and he's a good rider. Hope to hook up again.

We took Hwy 78 east through Ramona and through Julian, and down Banner Grade to S2. Took S2 east and took a break at the Vallecito Stage Station. Then continued on all the way to the I-8. Took I-8 to the Desert View Tower. Pretty cool place. Then headed south to Old Hwy 80, and took that to Pine Valley for a late lunch at Major's Coffee Shop.

From there, Grumpy headed back home along I-8, while the rest of us took Sunrise Hwy into Julian. Still a fair amount of snow on Mt Laguna. Then took Hwy 78 to Hwy 79. Trevor took Hwy 76 back home, and Mike and I took Hwy 79 to Temecula and thereafter.

I logged somewhere close to 300 miles.

I didn't take any photos, but Trevor took a bunch and uploaded them here...

Yeah but you left out the most important part: "...looks like he's 80, but rides like he's 25." That's pretty cool in my book.

I live about 10 miles west of that Tower! How funny... I didn't see this posting until today so obviously missed the ride but it's a small world.
