Headed to the Big Island

RE: Headed to the Big Island
I would recommend going to Kilauea- Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. If you can, return at night and see the lava flow into the ocean. Or just a ride around the whole island would be a nice ride. Waipi'o Valley is nice. I like Saddle Road, there is not much on it but lava fields on each side of the road and you can get to a road that goes up Mauna Kea off of it. Check out the Fodor's guidebook on Hawaii, I have used it on trips to all the islands and it is usually right on the money.

RE: Headed to the Big Island
The wife and I rented Harleys on the big Island last year and had blast. We rode around the entire island in a day, Kona side is pretty dry, dessert looking, we liked the Hilo side much greener and better looking in my opinion. Locals drive realy slow there, something we had to get used to.

Just back from the Big Island ...
Rented a Road King for a day and rode around the whole island (only island that you can do that) ... Roads are great, scenery is even better! Cost is good ($125 per day) ... The weather Gods were kind to us! Just a tad of rain near Waimea ... Highly recommended!
