Default Attention So Cal Riders

Does anyone love California State Highway 33 as much as I do? It totally rocks, the road condition is far above Angeles Crest Highway plus it has a rockin' biker bar called the Deer Lodge that has awesome BBQ pork on Sunday. I just got back. Check out my sig.

Might wanna re post that sig, somethings wrong. I checked out the pic. So beautiful. I have riden 33 a few times. I like it, but know it very well. I know angeles crest and all the roads out by the rockstore like the back of my own hand. Glad you had a great ride. Be cautious so you don't have to wait for your biek to get fixed anymore. I learned that after my first wreck on a Honda cbr600 back in 96 or so. Waiting for parts sux.

Anubisss,
what's up with my new sig? I had the image tag just like my old one and it's not showing the photo. Any ideas? I looked for your Fatty at the Rock Store yesterday around 9:30 a.m. (I like to get there before the rest of the world does) but you weren't there.

Got the sig sorted. This is a view from the highest spot on 33. 5,200 feet. And you gotta love the 80 degree weather!

Hwy 33 is a great road through the Sespe Gorge. I did that road last August. A friend and I rode up from the Corona, CA area to Santa Maria, and stayed the night. The next morning we set out to go through the Los Padres NF. Here's our route:

1. East on Hwy 166
2. Get gas in New Cuyama
3. Continued along Hwy 166 to Cerro Norroeste Rd.
4. Turn right on Cerro Norroeste Rd.
5. At intersection of Cerro Norroeste Rd & Mil Portrero Rd, bear left on to Mil Portrero Rd.
6. Follow Mil Portrero Rd into town of Pine Mountain. Stop at bar for beer.
7. Continue Mil Portrero Rd, to intersection with Cuddy Valley Rd.
8. Bear left on to Cuddy Valley Rd to intersection with Lockwood Valley Rd.
9. Turn right on to Lockwood Valley Rd, and follow to Hwy 33.
10. Turn left on Hwy 33 and follow into town of Ojai. Lunch in Ojai.
11. Follow Hwy 150 from Ojai to Santa Paula. Get gas in Santa Paula.
12. Follow Hwy 126 from Santa Paula to I-5.
13. South on I-5 to I-210, and follow home.

The riding on the above route is awesome. Beautiful country, and a great mixture of roads, from tight twisties, wide sweepers, and straightaways. We're considering going back and doing a similar ride, maybe the same route, or different, on Nov 18-19.

Thanks for the detailed route information. I've done 166 west to Santa Maria from 33. It was kinda boring. I've never gone east of 33 on 166 though. I'd like to try doing the Lockwood Valley Road loop as you suggest. I will say, though, that Lockwood Valley Road was in pretty bad shape when I rode it to the 5 at Frazier Park three months ago. Taking the bike through water, moss and at least 100 yds of dirt road was a bit hairy but it is a beautiful ride.

We did that route in mid-August. No moss, no water. Saw some herd of buffalo, though.

Buffalo? Wow, that would make the trip worthwhile!

Here's a photo of the buffalo shot from Lockwood Valley Rd...

There are some other photos from the same ride at this link:

Oh, I guess that ride was on Sep 3, not mid August.

Hey Adam,

Yes, I like 33 also, though I don't get out that way much. Ever been a bit further north to Kernville, Lake Isabella, Caliente-Bodfish, Tahachapi? My stomping grounds. If not, you have to make it up this way one of these days...
