Default Vegas to Yellowstone - route ideas?

We will be heading to Yellowstone and are looking for the most scenic route. Have been looking at heading up NV 93 into Idaho and over to Yellowstone or maybe go through Utah to Yellowstone. Utah may allow us to then go thru Jackson, WY which looks nice.

Anyone make this trip and have any suggestions?

Don: I am a LV native and have been all over the west by cage, motorcycle and Cessna 180. If you have not been north on US 93 go that way. Here is how I would go:

LV to Caliente to Pioche to the Junction with US 50. Be sure and refuel at Pioche cause it is a long way to the next fuel. Take US 50 over to the turn to the Great Basin/Mt. Wheeler park. At least ride up there and look around even if you don't take the tour thru the Lehman Caves. Then head for Provo, UT. Take the east (back) way up to Heber and Park City. Spectacular mountains to the west. Then go to Evanston, WY. From there take the secondary highways up to Jackson Hole, WY. From there go direct into the Yellowstone Park via the south entrance.

The road is going to get to some very high altitudes, so if you are going yet this year be prepared for snow and rain.

I have taken US 93 from Yuma, AZ to the Canadian border. At about Caliente, NV it gets into spectacular scenery and stays that way to Canada! But, the Great Basin Park is not to be missed.

If you do go on north from the GBP to Ely, the Ely Steam Train Museum should still be open and running thru the middle of Oct.

Get a road atlas in front of you, PM me with your phone number and I will talk you thru the trip. BC

This is giving me some good ideas ...

Our trip isn't till next year so I'm making a list of the areas, towns, cities that I must see and will then setup our trip. Thanks BC and nice pics John! The cool thing is that we will be leaving Yellowstone and heading for Sturgis.

Thanks for the help!

I rode from Vegas into Montana this summer... Actually our first stop was Mesquite, from there we hung a right in Washington UT. and rode thru Zion..that was great, we then continued up 89 into Provo where we stayed the night. The next morning we left and rode thru Provo Cyn. to Park City and had breakfast there. From PC we headed east on I-80 (which for the interstate was still a beautiful ride) hung a left at Evanston WY. Rode thru Woodruff and Randolph and around Bear Lake, at Montpelier we stayed on 89 thru Afton Wy. and at Alpine stay to the right and into Jackson.. It was an absolutely awesome ride... Parts of it along the Snake river... We laid up in Jackson and headed into the park the next day... I'd do it again tomorrow.. whichever way you choose I'm sure it will be beautiful...and we'll probably run into each other
