Moving from NYC to L.A. and need advice
Hey all,
Work is taking me from NYC to Los Angeles. Will probably be living in the South Bay and will move in the next 4-5 months. Couple of questions, if you guys don't mind:
1. Recommended rides and rallies?
2. Recommended area bike nights? Just looking to meet mellow people without attitudes, who dig riding.
3. Any special emission requirements or other hassles that come with registering an out-of-state bike in California?
Other than that, I'm looking forward to being able to ride most or all of the year.

Welcome to year round riding. I made a similar move (MA to Orange County) 13 years ago and never looked back. To your questions...
1. Laughlin River Run in April and Vegas Bike Week in late Sept. If you don't mind riding with a bunch of strangers, the 9-11 Commemorative Run from Cooks Corner to Long Beach (with FD escort) is good too. For regular weekend riding, your choices are unlimited. You haven't lived until you've ridden the SoCal canyons!
2. I haven't been in ages, but the Starting Gate in Los Alamitos has a good bike crowd every Wed night. I'm sure there are lots of others that I don't know about.
3. There is no emissions check for bikes, but you will need to have a DMV safety/numbers check performed before you can register your out-of-state bike. More here.

4 ~ 5 months gets you here around Sep/Oct ?
This bike night in Fullerton may or may not still be on, but I went for my second time last night and had a blast again. Packed with real nice rides and super cool people.

Get a map book of the area and lok for "roads of speghetti". That's what I do. Also hooks up with other riders here on the forum. Lots of places to ride, hang out, etc. Southern Cal is the place for riding!!!! LA is close to San Diego and vice versa. I ride both areas and up into Central Cal when ever possible (have sleeping bag will travel) !!
