It's not that bad, I had it done years ago and survived. Glad the father-in-law came out OK. Bet it's load off the wifes mind.
Yea she quit blaming herself and realized after several DR's telling her it has nothing to with her. If anything she help prevent it from happening sooner.

Chapter 801.366:"'Motorcycle Helmet' means a protective covering for the head consisting of a hard outer shell, padding adjacent to and inside the outer shell and a chin-strap type retention system with a sticker indicating that the motorcycle helmet meets standards established by the United States Department of Transportation.
The catch here is that is only has to have a sticker (DOT). When you buy a "beanie" or non-approved "novelty" helmet here in Oregon many dealers will offer you a sticker for free, but YOU put it on. A cop here CAN NOT pull you over for it (not a primary infraction). They can only mess with you if you are pulled over for a primary infraction. I used to wear a beanie, but traded it in for a real DOT approved carbon fiber helmet after throwing it at my front door and watching it split in two. I figured I have a $200.00 head and not a $20.00 head.
