Chris,
It sounds like you had a blast, and yup, I've been over every inch of the route you took. I'm heading out to Vegas next month to visit family, and plan on taking the same route again. I take it by the sound of your blog that you really had fun on old 66

Yeah 66 was awesome. I actually didn't intend on going that far north east... the girl at the gas station pointed me in the wrong direction to Oatman hahaha. It was still great though!

Living in LV I've done that ride with variations a few times now. Glad you had such a good ride!

BTW the Hoover Dam tour, which takes you to the generator rooms and all the way out at the bottom of the dam, is what makes it worth the 4 hour bus trip. It's pretty cool, actually. Though I wouldn't do it while the meter was running on an HD rental. :-)

EXACTLY!

I guess thats what I felt about the whole hoover dam as I looked at it and was like "Screw this, I'm riding..."

Speaking of the hoover dam, how long until they finish that new overpass bridge they are building? That looks like one hell of a construction project.

If you would have went a couple hundred more yards north on 66, you could have visited our Limestone Plant... been down those roads several times... congrats on the trip, sounds like a great one...

Maybe next time I do that ride I'll keep on going on 66 and see where I end up. The reason I turned around where I did is because I came up to a police roadblock stopping people from going north on 18 or whatever that was, and I stopped to ask them how much farther to oatman. When the officer told me that I was going the wrong way I turned around and headed back... haha

Looks like a great ride! I'm head to LV for bikefest in October. Might follow in your tracks a bit!

2+ yrs yet. They've had a few setbacks (crane collapse) and it's a heck of a project. Will be nice when done, but no views as they are making the walls high to stop gawkers.

Yeah I recommend it! Oatman, and the mountain side road up there are definitely a sight to be seen!
