I-5 or 395 thru California?

If it wasn't for the fires around Big Sur, I'd take PCH. You could take 5 up past Big Sur and then shhot over to PCH and on north from there. That ride thru Northern Ca. and the Oregon coast are awesome..

395 is a great ride most of the way,a little slow some places in the piney mountains of North Central Oregon but stunning scenery.
I would go 395 if it was me and the coast was not an option.
Watch out for the CHP between Susanville and the Oregon border,they always have a speed trap set up somewhere in that stretch.
As stated get gas in Lakeview,there should be gas (regular only) in Valley Falls but don't bet on it.
The pumps is Wagontire have closed so there is definately no gas between Valley Falls and Riley,about 90 miles and Riley has regular gas only.
You can get preimum gas in Lakeview and again in Hines/Burns about 138 miles apart.
