BigDawg: I'm a native of Las Vegas and have been here most of my life. LV has accommodations from 'no telly' motels to $5Kpernight suites. If you want to stay close to the Vegas Fest action, stay in one of the downtown hotel/casinos on Fremont St. The Golden Nugget is nice, The Plaza is the headquarters hotel and you can park in front under their entrance portico. The Horseshoe (now called Binions)is older and less fancy, but has an excellent steak/ribs restaurant. There are about 10 more significant hotel/casinos in that area.A real sleeper in the downtown area and right next to the Plaza is the Main St. Station (1890's New Orleans decor). If you don't mind riding your bike each day to the Vegas Fest activities, go south out on the Strip to what is thought of as the 'traditional Strip hotels'. Bike parking during the day is no problem, but it does get iffy at night during the scheduled events. The 'at the edge of Vegas Valley' hotels like the Fiesta in Henderson, the Boulder Station, the South Point at the far south of the Strip and the Red Rock Hotel on West Charleston Ave. are all great hotel/casinos that offer a little better rates because of being further out. But none are more than 12 miles from Fremont St.
Marriage Chapels are numerous thruout Vegas and the Strip. You might even make the newspapers if you two chose to marry while sitting on your bike at the chapel's drive-up window.! Don't laugh, it is possible. You could even have an Elvis impersonator do the ceremony. Heck, get a hold of the Vegas Fest Producers and ask them to set up marrying youas an "event". They would probably go for it. Then you could get married in front of 2 or 3 thousand of your 'closest' friends. Just saying.
Don't forget to buy your marriage license during regular business hours as it costs a lot less then. ........... BC

We went last year and stayed at the Hooters Hotel...they gave us a 'rally rate' of 80 bucks per night. Lots of events there and around town--HA's put a nicepoker runto all the strip clubs. Hogs and Heifers was absolutely packed everynight. The actual bikefest was 'ok'...typical stuff, beer, vendors, custom choppers. We went there for one day, got a t-shirt and headed for the strip. All in all...a good time had by all. We chose Sturgis this year instead.
Best of luck.

jager: I love your signature picture. The location is the desert south of Boulder City. You are on US 95 at about mile post 48.1. The mountains behind the Eldorado Dry Lake are the McCulloughs. You were just about to pass under the powerlines that run from Hoover Dam to Los Angeles. Do I know my Nevada Desert or What? ........... BC

Wife and I have been to all the Bikefests. The first was in the parking lot of Main Street Station. You might start TRYING to get reservations NOW. We usually stayed at Main Street, this year they were full in March for the event. We got rooms across the street at the California Club.....mostly Oriental clients. Lots of places to ride, lots of things to see. Fremont St. is the place to be Friday and Saturday night. They really know how to throw a party in Los Vegas.

You can't beat Las Vegas Harley. Last year we rode in. My buddy Dirty Harry on his 07 Sportie riding 2 up from the Los Angeles area. Just in town, his bike starts leaking oil from the shifter seal, dripping like hell. We ride straight to Los Vegas Harley. 3:00 Friday afternoon of Bikefest. They take his bike in, drop the case and replace the O ring. Whole thing while there is a huge party in the parking lot, and the place was jammed. 1 hour later we were on the road. Whole thing on warranty, no questions asked, didn't get bumped by "high bucks" accessories install. Went across the street and bought a case of beer for the mechanic. Oh, they washed and polished the bike.

Jager: No there isn't! Specially as old as I am. I was born in the Las Vegas General Hospital. It isn't in existence anymore. It was just to the north of the El Cortez Hotel. I remember when Henderson was known as 'Basic Townsite'. By the way, that powerline you are just about to drive under was built in 1936. Los Angeles Dept. of Water and Power first estimated its useful life at 60 years. Now they are estimating 120 years. ................. BC
