Default CA-AZ-UT-NV road trip

Last Sunday my buddy and I left Temecula, heading east for a 5-day road trip through Arizona, Utah, and Nevada. What a killer time we had. We both used the CB radios on our Ultras to communicate. Here's an intinerary of what we did, and some photos.

You can see all the photos here...

Day 1: Left Temecula, CA, headed south on Hwy 79. Stopped at Vallecito Stage Station for a break. Stopped in Yuma to visit a mutual friend. Got into Benson and overnighted at a motel. We were supposed to camp at Kartchner Caverns, but we got there too late, and they locked the place down with gates.

Day 2: Toured through the Kartchner Caverns. Then road east on I-8 to US 191, and stopped in Morenci for lunch. Continued up US 191, throught a 100 mile stretch known as "Coronado Trail", that lies between the towns of Morenci and Alpine, AZ, which I've seen described as the twistiest road in the USA. Defintely very fun to ride, lots of switchbacks, endless series of sweepers, and great views. And no traffic at all! Finally stopped in at Lyman Lake and set up camp.

Day 3: Headed up towards Petrified Forest National Park, and rode through the thing. Did some walking around and taking photos. Then headed north into the Navajo Reservation. Then took Highway 64 into the Grand Canyon, and set up camp.

Day 4: Left Grand Canyon east on the 64, and took Highway 89 up to Navajo Bridges, and then west towards Kanab, UT. There's a stretch of Highway 89 that goes through the Kaibab National Forest, and is similar to the Coronado Trail, just endless twisties and great scenery. Stopped for dinner in Kanab, and then headed into Zion National Park. Highway 9 through Zion is another awesome road, a rider's paradise. Except too many cars. Finally settled down and set up camp.

Day 5: Headed west on Highway 9 towards I-15, and took that into Mesquite, NV for breakfast. Then continued on down the I-15, and then crossed over to the 95, and did the Mt Charleston loop. After that, headed home down the I-15.

Absolutely incredible scenery and makes me real homesick for Arizona. Wish I could have done the trip with you all. Thanks for the post and pics.

Looks like a great trip and thanks for reminding me of Coronado Trail- I have to do that ride again before the heat sets in.

Nice stuff! I've ridden much of that trip myself. Too bad you didn't make a whistle stop here in Vegas!!!

Outstanding pix! Some great memories of last year just before the River Run. We went clockwise, Vegas, St. George, Zion, Bryce, Page, Grand Canyon, then Laughlin. Hard to beat riding in Az and Nv. Next time you want to ride in the area, try the Laughlin to Flagstaff, to Sedona!

Look Familiar? Wife and My bike, Me...she has the camera Just outside Zion
on the St. George side.

Stelis,
Dude, you should work for one of these so called touring magazines. I would much prefer reading about your ride than reading about nothing other than the vendors that support them. Thanks for the fun read, look forward to moreā€¦.
