Anyone taken CA 62 east to CA 95 north?
Thinking of taking that route to Laughlin by way of a quick stop/ride at Joshua Tree. Anyone know what the 62 and the 95 are like? There is also a road called Amboy Rd that you can take north from Joshua Tree/Twentynine Palms that connects to the old route 66 I beleive. Anyone go on that? I don't enjoy just blasting through on interstates (if traffic allows!). There is something Zen like when cruizing through beautiful surroundings. Since I started riding I've realized that getting there is actuallyMORE than half the fun.

Man! Funny ya mention this route. This is the exact route I am planning on taking to Laughlin. Actually a few of us. I Wouldn't want to take that route alone. ha!
I have taken that route going to Vegas a few times, but only in a cage. I can tell ya that it is the Mohave Desert, and after 29palms, there is not much of ANYTHING going out toward Amboy, then again nothing after that.
We are still planing on taking this route, unless something changes. I would suggest not riding it alone, although since it is Laughlin weekend, ther may be more traffic than normal. I have been out that way, when I was the ONLY vehicle to be seen. Sound exciting!?

Me, and a couple buddiesare leaving Thursday 9ish meeting in Beaumont. If your looking to ride out with someone, shoot me an email.
I also have a few of my buddies riding out, that same way on Friday morning. Not sure what time, but maybe I can hook you up with them. I know they wouldnt mind having someone cruise along. In case your intersted in either.

I heard that they repaved an area out there, in this past year? Im not sure if it was that section ofroad out to Amboy, or beyond, but I know what ya mean about that section being a little rough. That was the worse of that route, so hopefully they put the $$ in the right area.

I was on that road 3 or 4 weeks ago. It is a nice country/desert route. Roys Cafe was closed for renovation. So make sure you fill up before leaving 29 plams. I believe the next fuel stop was like 4 dollars a gallon. So if you need fuel put enough in to get you to needles. No telling what fuel cost is now.

I will be taking 62 to 29 Palms, then turn toward Amboy, then National Trails Hwy (old 66)toward Essex, then cut to the 40, then onto Needles.
Once at Amboy, if the road seems a mess, I can turn on Kelbaker to the 40. I have made that turn, and it is only about 15 miles to get on the 40 at that point.
