Jerry has Lost the Battle
I am sorry to report that Jerry Gaddis has lost his battle with recovering from his accident in Wichita Ks. He was at peace when he passed. I was at the scene of the accident and I will never forget what he went through. Struck from behind by an unattentive car driver. Brothers and sisters I can't express enough the importance of wearing helmet. Ive been riding for 45 years years and I will now wear a helmet when ever I ride. It was not more than a hour before Jerry's accident that he was praising a young man for wearing a helmet and telling the youth how smart he was for wearing it. Then Jerry got on his bike for his last ride without his. The following is an e-mail from Jerry's Wife with the touching details of his final moments. May God Bless you Jerry!
Dear Family and Friends:
Our dear Jerome passed away Sunday, April 2, 2006 at 8:27 pm. A small army of his family and friends placed him in Hospice today at 11 a.m.
It was a short but very high quality day for him. He was able to connect with an array of beautiful, talented people who loved him deeply and who were ready to release him to a better place. At the end, he was alone with me, basking in the quarter moon, the city stars and the neon's lights of our prairie city. He listened quietly, as I reread some personal letters Camille and I had read to him the day before. He was always one to reread his books and letters many times over. At the end of Camille's sweet letter to her daddy, he stopped his laborious breathing.
Words cannot express the feeling we have for all the support you have given us these past 23 days. Many gave us kind words, many gave us smiles, food, gifts, or many shared your talents with us during these stressful days. Because of you, we have always carried some type of hope in our heart. We will always be grateful these past three weeks, we have reconnected with many old friends, new friends, and acquaintances that turned into true blue friends.
What a journey. It was an honor to take care of Jerome, for a mere 23 days of his life. For he had taken care of Camille and I, unselfishly, honorably and lovingly for 15 + years.
Services are pending. Camille will be having gum surgery on Thursday April 6. We have had this scheduled for almost a year! Please pray all goes well for her and her recovery time is quick. Hopefully Jerome' s celebration will be held the following week but I have learned "every reason has it's season." I will be in touch!
