I was doing an oil and oil filter change this morning on a 81 FXWG

To my surprise the new oil filter was not the same type that came off the bike. Its one of those that is attached to a spring and sits in the oil tank under the seat, I've not seen one of these before, I've been to my local motor cycle shop and looked on line, But most places have just a picture for reference, so i'm not sure if its the same kind as I've already bought one and it hasn't worked.

So I was just wondering if you guys knew where I could find one, I haven't got a picture right now but I will get one tomorrow, But its about 4'' tall and 2'' across, attaches to a spring, which attaches to the lid with something that screws into the lid to hold the filter in the tank. and there are lots of little holes the filter.

They're called 'drop in' oil filters, but many guys upgraded to the later style external oil filter mounts that screw the filter on somewhere up on the front of the bike. Is that what you have now?

 

Thank you Stiggy, That is exactly the type that was in my bike, I went to a couple of places and they said they don't stock the OE one any more, Talked to the guy I got my oil from said that the OE one isn't made any more and these drop in filters are available now? , I just typed it into ebay and found a few and ordered one, Thank you for your help, Much appreciated
