Syn 3 any good?

RE: Syn 3 any good?
Also, Harley switched to their primary/gear oil as the recommended lube in 06, not just on 07s.
Consider they may have opted to stay with the syn 3 because their incremental profit (the money they make or loose per unit sold) may have justified selling an inferior lube because its profits exceeded the warranty costs. This is really possible due to the fact that LOW MILAGE riders comprise a good percentage of new Harley buyers and the HIGH MILAGE riders didn't go for putting motor oil in their trannys in very high percentages, comparatively.
The above thoughts are anecdotal, not scientific but DO seem logical to me. No argument that syn3 is a good oil. It is just, IMHO, not the BEST CHOICE for the price and , again IMHO, has no place in a transmission. Worries about the primary are overblown as the "splash lube" nature of it requires much less heat resistance and pressure protection than the engine and tranny.
EZ

RE: Syn 3 any good?
SYn3, Mobil1Vtwin, Amsoil are all fine. My only recommendation is that you use a 75w90 gear oil in your trans that is rated GL5 (look on the bottle) Mobil1 and Amsoil both make it.

I used Syn3 for the first time @ 33,000 miles. My oil pressure has never dropped this low, less than 10 psi. Living in South Florida and having a V twin is rough on oil. My motor is running hotter than normal. I am changing it out with 1500 miles because it seems to have broken down fast. In the past, I have either used Mobil 1 or Amsoil and never experienced my oil pressure dropping this low, even close to 5000 miles before an oil change. Enough said. Syn3 is not recommended by me!

Yes.
The folks that designed, built, and warranty you engine say it is, and I'd believe them over Bubba the shoe salesman/internet oil forum guru.
Yes, it's more expensive than a lot of other choices out there, but anyone who doesn't think Syn3 will take an otherwise healthy Twin Cam engine well past 100k miles needs a reality check...
