Default Redline Heavy Shockproof #58204

I received some Redline Heavy Shockproof for a gift but it's not the V-Twin Trans Fluid w/ Shockproof like I typically use. Anyone using the Heavy Shockproof with good results in a 6 spd tranny? I hate to let it sit on the shelf. Thank you.

I've used heavy shockproof in my 5 speed (and my 4 speed shovel tranny) for several years, before they had a "V-Twin" designation.
AFAIK, it's the same stuff, just isn't labeled "V-Twin"

If Im wrong no doubt someone will correct me.

I have a quart bottle in the garage and will check your part number this morning. I, for one, have not heard of a V Twin lube other than for the primary case. I have used Shock Proof heavy in my 6 speed for several years now and am very pleased with it. I have an 08 King and that transmission was well known for 5th gear whine. At 51,000 miles my 5th gear is hardly noisier than 6th.

It is common for some anti-wear additives in transmission and rear end lubes to be corrosive to "yellow" metals. Brass and copper I believe qualify. Because of the stator being wound with copper wire, using gear lube in the primary is not a good idea.

There is a "6 Speed" gear lube made by Spectro which is also very well thought of, but I have never heard specifically of a "V-Twin" transmission lube.

Your link is to the primary fluid, but if you look on the tranny fluid page it says "same fluid as our heavy shockproof gear oil"

I looked up your part number and it's the same stuff I've been using for years.

Oh, technology. I totally missed that line on their page. That answers that. Thanks all!

Was using Syn3 in the tranny. I wasn't happy with the noise and the way it shifted so I switched to Shockproof. Really improve things.

Default Transmission oils.

Agreed ! motor oil doesnot belong in the transmission. Shock proof which could be argued as a bit over kill is formulated for transmission gears which have a different load profile than a motor. I have had shockproof in my 12 Road king since the 1000 mile service and the transmission shifting has improved .
The real proof is when it gets over 90 Deg outside and the 20 -50 Thins out. You can feel the transmission becomes a bit more "notchy ". Not a good feeling ! Even the HD sport trans oil feel better than the 20 50 when it is HOT ! The redline oils seem to hold up better when under heated riding conditions.

I have been using the Redline Shockproof Heavy for years now and I believe it is one of the best transmission fluids out there for our Harleys. Great stuff ..!

Default Redline heavy 58204 vs Redline V-Twin 42804

I too have been using Redline heavy 58204 for many years. Initially in my 99 RK (5 speed), I was amazed to find the shifting "klunch" sounded more like a ball-point pen. I tried the V-Twin version 42804 in my 08 RK (6 speed) late last season (Sept). I know the web page says "Same fluid as our unique Heavy ShockProof® Gear Oil" but I wonder if it shouldn't say "CONTAINS the same fluid". It just doesn't make sense to put the EXACT same formula in 2 different packages (and that would make the heavy not "unique"). Since anything for "V-Twin" is usually more expensive, the fact that it is the same price on Amazon makes me suspect a different mixture, and it even seemed thinner running out of the bottle. The V-Twin version is undoubtedly better than SYN3, and perhaps Redline gains market access by having a "V-Twin" labelled product, but I feel the 58204 works a little better and for the same cost I am going back to my original heavy.
